P.A.'s Parenteau a rising star at the CCMA's, Prince Albert Daily Herald, Karen Longwell, August 3, 2007

Full Article

"Prince Albert’s country music star Donny Parenteau has done it again. Parenteau is once again nominated for a Canadian Country Music Association award, this time as a finalist in the Chevy Rising Star Award category. Last year Parenteau was nominated in the “fiddle player of the year” category. Wednesday, just before 10 a.m., Parenteau got a call from his publicist in Toronto who told him the good news. “It was an incredible feeling,” he says. “This is the big one.” Last year’s nomination fulfilled a lifelong dream to be recognized across Canada for his fiddle playing, Parenteau says, but this nomination recognizes his solo career, which he started in 2003. “Now they (the public) are starting to recognize more than just fiddle playing — songwriting, singing, everything — the whole package,” Parenteau says. “I am really honoured to be in this category.”

"The Prince Albert musician is set to have a huge weekend at the Saskatchewan Country Music Association Awards. He's nominated in 10 categories but if you count his manager's and band's nominations, the total is 14.  That's out of 27 awards.

Parenteau had to ear the wisdom he has collected after two decades in music, but he's willing to give it away for free.  The one thing youngsters need to do when starting out is to stay humble, he says.  Everyone wants to start at the top, Idol style, but it doesn't work over the long term.

Parenteau is not showing up at the SCMAs merely to pick up his trophies. He would like to see the event to grow.  "I want to see this thing succeed because there's so much talent here," he said."
